Note for Equality N°13: November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
In 1999 the United Nations General Assembly established November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, in commemoration of the murder of the Dominican sisters Mirabal during Trujillo’s dictatorship. The international consensus to end violence against women and girls remain fundamental to this date, when the situation of women in the Latin America and Caribbean region continues to be an issue of concern.
