Estrutura administrativa e política

Barbados es una nación independiente. Su forma de gobierno es la República Parlamentaria. El Jefe de Estado es el Presidente, elegido por un colegio electoral de ambas casas del Parlamento. El Jefe de Gobierno es el Primer Ministro, quien es designado por el Presidente en función de su posición en tanto líder del Partido o Coalición mayoritaria en un proceso electoral.

Barbados se divide en once (11) parroquias, además de la capital, Bridgetown. Estas, a su vez, se dividen en treinta (30) distritos electorales o circunscripciones, cada una de las cuales cuenta con un concejo propio.

Barbados has only a national level government. Local government in Barbados is divided into 11 administrative districts, known as parishes, and the city of Bridgetown.

Prime Minister, Senate and House of Representatives: Maximum of 5 years from formation of government.

Sistema representativo

House of Assembly: Majority: Direct election. Simple majority vote. Vacancies arising between general elections are filled through by-elections held within 90 days. Voting is not compulsory.

The Senators are appointed by the Governor General. Twelve are appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister; two are appointed on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition and seven are appointed at the Governor-General's discretion, taking into account religious, economic, and social interests"
