Political and administrative structure

Aruba is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Its form of government is a parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy. The Head of State is the Monarch of the Netherlands, represented by a Governor. The Head of Government is the Prime Minister, who is indirectly elected by the Parliament.

Aruba is divided into six administrative districts. The districts of Oranjestad and San Nicolaas are each subdivided into two parts for census purposes only.

National parliament

Aruba has a unicameral Parliament (Staten), composed of 21 members elected by universal suffrage in a single national constituency through a proportional representation system.

Municipal government

There are no local government structures in Aruba.
