Political and administrative structure

Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory. Its form of government is a parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy. The Head of State is the British Monarch, represented in the country by a Governor. The Head of Government is the Premier, who is appointed by the Governor based on their position as leader of the majority party or coalition after an election.

Anguilla does not have a formal political-administrative division, but its territory is organized into 14 districts called “parishes.”

National parliament

The Anguilla House of Assembly is unicameral and has 11 seats: 7 are elected by universal suffrage, 2 are appointed by the Governor, and 2 are ex officio members (the Attorney General and the Deputy Governor).

Municipal government

There are no local government structures in Anguilla.
