Political and administrative structure

Antigua and Barbuda is an independent nation and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. It has a parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy. The Head of State is the British Monarch, represented in the country by a Governor General, who is appointed by the Monarch in consultation with the Prime Minister. The Head of Government is the Prime Minister, appointed by the Governor General based on their position as leader of the majority party or coalition following an election.
