An Act to amend the Employment Act, 1999 No. 14. Amends section 61 on the calculation of maternity pay, increasing the amount as follows: (a) in the case of monthly paid employees, two months salary less any amount to which such employees are entitled under the National Insurance Act; (b) in the case of weekly or fortnightly paid employees, wages for four fortnights less any amount to which such employees are entitled under the National Insurance Act; (c) in the case of daily paid workers, one-fifth of wages earned in the twelve months immediately prior to the commencement of the leave being taken less any amount to which such employees are entitled under the National Insurance Act.

Employment Act No. 14 of 1999
An Act to provide for the fixing of wages of workers, the hours of work, their leave and generally for matters pertaining to the welfare of workers. According to section 60, an employee shall be entitled to maternity leave for a period of three months (12 weeks), with maternity pay calculated and paid in accordance with section 61. Maternity pay shall comprise (a) in the case of monthly paid employees, a sum not less than forty per cent (40%) of two months pay (b) in the case of weekly or fontnightly paid employees, a sum not less than forty per cent (40%) of four fortnights pay; (c) in the case of daily paid workers, a sum not less than forty per cent (40%) of one-fifth of the pay earned in twelve months immediately prior to the commencement of the leave.
Subsequently amended by Employment (Amendment) No. 2 Act, 2000.

National Insurance (Regulations) Act No. 14 of 1983 (Last modified 2011)
Establishes the conditions for the maternity benefit, which during the period of confinement of 12 weeks shall consist of an allowance if the woman is an insured woman, and a grant if the woman is the wife of an insured husband.
Maternity allowance shall be granted to a woman for a period starting from a date not earlier than six weeks before the expected date of confinement, and continuing until the expiration of twelve (12) week, with a daily rate of sixty-five per cent (65%) of the insurable earnings of the insured woman divided by six. Additionally, the amount of the maternity grant shall be a lump sum of five hundred and twenty-two dollars ($522) per confinement, payable to insured women before or after confinement or to a husband whose wife cannot qualify on her own. Women are entitled both the allowance and the grant, husbands can only qualify for the grant.
