    The Revised National Gender Policy 2013

    The Government of Belize undertakes this National Gender Policy as the framework through which these rights are translated into the achievement of de jure and de facto gender equality, equity and women’s empowerment in Belize. The National Gender Policy is founded on principles outlined in the Belize Constitution and in International Conventions and Agreements signed and ratified by the Government of Belize.

    The overarching goal of the Revised National Gender Policy is “To advance the achievement of de jure and de facto gender equality and equity in Belize.”

    Labour (Amendment) Act 2005 (No.3 of 2011)

    Section 177 states that a     female employee shall be entitled a total of fourteen weeks' maternity leave which shall be on full pay. Up to a maximum of seven weeks before the expected date of confinement on full pay, the balance after the expected date of confinement on full pay, two weeks before and seven weeks after the expected date of confinement shall be mandatory.
