Community of Practice for the Measurement of the Care Society (RTC-CEA)

The Community of Practice for the Measurement of the Care Society s a platform for knowledge sharing and technical cooperation aimed at strengthening the production of statistics on care in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Community was launched in 2023, during the 24th International Meeting on Gender Statistics, as part of a partnership between the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), UN Women, the Mexican Secretariat for Women (formerly INMUJERES), and the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), as part of the Knowledge Transfer Network of the Statistical Conference of the Americas (RTC-CEA) and the Global Alliance for Care.

The Community promotes dialogue among National Statistical Offices (NSOs), Mechanisms for the Advancement of Women, and other institutions involved in care policies. Its work focuses on developing and strengthening methodologies, indicators, and data sources—particularly Time Use Surveys—to measure the supply and demand for care, highlight its distribution among the government, the market, communities, and households, and provide evidence for the design and monitoring of public policies.

As an articulation and mainstreaming space between the Statistical Conference of the Americas and the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, and in line with the Regional Gender Agenda and the Tlatelolco Commitment (2025–2035), the Community is establishing itself as a forum for technical coordination that links statistical production with progress toward substantive equality and the building of caring societies in the region.
